I recently patched my host file, in order to use a downloaded version of program (A) I usually run Paretologic PC Health Adviser, this scans for virus’s and other issues w/ the windows system. What does my host file affect? if I choose to run this program will it make my non paid version of program (A) stop working?(or at least the serial #)
Chosen Answer:
Your hosts file shouldn’t be affected at all. Virus scans typically don’t do anything to the hosts file.. running a malicious file scan may find suspicious entries in your hosts file and flag them, but rarely is the file modified by anyone but you.
Running a scan shouldn’t interfere with your hosts file and the entries you put in to (I’m assuming) bypass registration activation servers.
